In about 2 weeks I'll be ordering a nice stainless steel exhaust w/a stainless Y-pipe. I've personally heard this on a Cougar & it sounds very nice- like a stock V8 GT 'Stang nice The dynos on these are very appealing: about 8hp w/the exhaust & a little less for the Ypipe (I'm sure together they'll give more). That'll give my little ATX a nice well needed kick. So yes, this does mean I'm keeping my car. And funny thing is the day after I took it off the market I got a call from someone willing to pay $11k oh well, this is more fun... Oh yea, here's the site for it. - www.yodudeperformance.com/home.asp?producttype=exhaust&productfor=cougar&pagetype=productIndexI'm still debating on whether I should get the stainless Y-pipe. Cause in it's cheaper form there's still an avg. 10yrs on it and I'm sure something better will have come out.

This is dual exhaust with a Y-pipe?
You still want that backpressure for low-end torque? If you did an H- or X-pipe you'd alleviate some backpressure--it'd be a loss of low-end torque but more horses in the higher RPM band.

It's a dual. Cougars already have great top-end. Gunning it @ anything past 50 and you'll be at 100 in no time. The "Y-pipe" is not how the exhaust is bent, this is another part that comes off the headers & replaces the catalytic converter with a high-flow cat (Magnaflow) which then goes to the exhaust.
If I don't do a tranny swap in the future (gotta find a junked SVT Contour) I'll be considering taking my car to Level-10 in NJ. They retool your tranny to make it take well more than your car will ever put out. A few Cougars on my board have done this & have seen 1-2sec taken off their 0-60 times and that's on an ATX! So basiclly it takes your ATX tranny to the specs of a MTX (same car). Plus it lets it handle more power.

I'm not sure how effective the dual exhaust would be, considering, that it goes down to one pipe after the headers, and then splits...but admitedly I don't know anything about cougars

Yea a single exhaust would be good from a performance standpoint but I hate the sound & look of them. Plus on a dyno the performance loss was so minimal compairing the two.
I have decided on the stainless dual & aluminized Y-pipe since after talking with the owner he says the pipe would have a life of 10yrs anyway. Only thing is he outta stock so I'll be ordering at the end of the week.

Well, I got the exhaust put on Friday & it sounds awesome. Has a nice stock Mustang rumble to it (shakes the car, dunno if that's a good thing). The only thing I'm concerned with is that it almost gets a little raspy at WOT, especially in the interior. I had my g/f tear across a parking lot and at WOT it sounds better on the outside.
I'm hoping after I reset my ECU the car will learn it quicker & adjust. Plus the exhaust is still new & I'm sure some soot inside will change the note a bit. Overall I'm happy with it, the pipes are nice, straight & stock looking which is what I want. Next meet you's all can hear it.
