I'm considering a Mini Cooper in Indi Blue color, which is close to the color of my current Mustang. I've said it before, but it's got phenomenal handling, does 0-60 in 6.7 seconds (which is faster than my v6), gets good gas mileage, is small so it's good for Boston, front-wheel drive so it's good for the winter, and has a sunroof that's so huge that the opening is almost like t-tops. It's a standard, and it's got the BMW warranty where they do your oil changes and rotations for 3 years! And I love the way it looks. Some people react negatively towards it, and one girl said I'd look gay in it. I typically do my own thing though and don't care what everyone else thinks. I trust your opinions - what do you think of it?

they seem like fun little cars, I wouldn't mind having one.

I like 'em....and they're a great step in the right direction away from your little miata infatuation! ;D
Basically...if you're gonna get one though, get the Cooper S. The "S" means faster!

But of course! The regular Mini does 0-60 in a little more than 8 seconds - why would I spend money on a slower car?

I did it. I just put down a refundable deposit of $500 for a Mini S. And I'm test-driving for a few hours on Saturday! There's a very high demand for the Mini right now though, so the wait time is 9-12 months! That was expected though. I can get my deposit back at any time, so if for some reason something better comes along or I change my mind, this doesn't cost me anything.

Honestly, I'd wait a little. Since they're in such high demand the dealers are jacking up the price. So unless you've found a respectable one I'd wait a year. Pretty soon they'll be down to like $16-18k like the PT Cruisers...

...also, buying the first run of a new model car is risky (BMW may be different). They're prone to all the 'real-life' problems that testing wouldn't bring up. All cars have a few.
They had to recall every one of the Ford Focus's (Focii?) because of a major problem (I forget). But it was somewhere along 150,000 cars (or more). Surprisingly it's still the #1 selling car in the U.S.

Well my deposit is refundable, and it's going to take 9-12 months for my Cooper S to be ordered and arrive, so by then it'll be the 2003 model anyway. In the meantime, I'll keep track of any problems or recalls listed on the Mini.
