What kinda car should I get for under $10K?
I've got a couple choices already, and I'm always looking for more ideas.
-Honda Del sol (I know most of you think it's gay, but I like it.) -Hyundai Tiburon -Toyota MR2 -Pontiac Firebird -Mitsubishi Eclipse (probably not, but I'm not shutting any doors) -Eagle Talon -Dodge Stealth
(Keep in mind these would have to be used cars)
Thanks for the input.

What are you looking for in a car? Do you want speed, handling, fuel econ., Here is what I would go for: 87 Grand National-car flies 88-93 Mustang 5.0-easy to mod 94 TT Supra-sorry a little pricey Talon-turbo-nice looking and quick Honda accord 2 door- Eclipes-turbo VR-4 Well that's a start.I like most cars.

No Tiburons! That is, unless you're going to wait for the new 190hp ones. But those would be way past your price range. Anyway, any Tiburon would cost more than $10k. I'm not an Eclipse fan. It's more girly than Del Sols. An older Firebird isn't a bad idea, if it's priced right. How bout an older Vette? I say stick with my original plan - get a Porsche 914. They cost between $5-$7k.

Thug, I'd say anything on your list except the first two. If you want something inexpenisve and good to mod, why not pick up a Honda Civic or VW GTI?

I think the Mustang is the best bang for the buck speed wise you can pick up a 90-93 Mustang Notchback it great shape for like 4000 to 7000 then with the left over money put a blower on it or just build up what already in the car. Most likely when you are done you will have invested about 10k and have a mid to low 13 second car if not faster.

The only Honda's that I'd ever get are : S2000, Prelude, or a Del sol...
Too many people have civics or accords...
A Mustang would be nice, but too many of the people I hang out with have them (Delhux, Jackal...etc)
I was actually thinking about a vette (there's a lot of them for sale up here in VT) so I might look into that....
I addressed the 914 porsche issue with the counter-point that replacing things on it would cost me mucho...and i have no mucho to go around...
I might look into gettin' a Vdub, but not sure...
Grand National is a good idea, but I'm a short kid and I'm sure I'd look way non-hetero in a big car like that.

I can think of one thing that is about 10k. 1994 Honda Prelude Vtec.

I'd look into a DSM of some sort. If i knew how cheap and easy it was to get those cars to go fast, I would have gotten into them instead of falling into the Mustang scene. An old AWD Talon or GSX or Stealth TT could be found for under 10K nowadays (maybe a bit more for the stealth) but that's what i'd go for.

Toyota Paseo? It's a 2dr and it's cheap...anyone know anything about them?? I think it's a sub-hundred horser also...93 or 98 or something. Here's a review on it: www.auto.com/reviews/qtony27.htm"Under its snappy-looking exterior, the Paseo is basically a two-door Tercel."

I'm finding a bunch of Toyota Paseo's that're well under $8k and I'm thinking about taking an honest look at them.
They're mad weak, but it's a two door, and I might be able to grab a ragtop for a low price. (Ragtop looks better than the coupe I think, but need to see it in person first.)
SPECIFICATIONS: 1996 TOYOTA PASEO TWO-DOOR SPORT COUPE
Base Price $ 13,838 Engine Type I-4, dohc, 16 valve, efi Engine Size 1.5 liter/90 cid Horsepower 93 @ 5400 Torque (lb/ft) 100 @ 4400 Wheelbase/Length 94"/164" Curb Weight 2140 lbs. Pounds per Horsepower 23.0 Fuel Capacity 11.9 gal. Fuel Requirement Unleaded regular (87 oct) Tires P185/60 R 24 all-season Brakes disc/drum - ABS optional Drive Train front engine/front drive PERFORMANCE EPA Economy - miles per gallon city/highway/observed 28/34/30.2 0 to 60 mph 10.0 sec. 1/4 mile (E.T.) 17.3 sec Coefficient of Drag. .31
I've been skimmin' Autotrader.com and have seen a bunch of Camaro's and Firebirds for under $5k, but I'm skeptical and I'm not sure about a lot of things right now.
I'd love more input guys...tell me what you like, and why. I'm curious.

Golf GTI...Any of the 93(?)-98 (3rd generation) GTIs should fall in that price range (under 10K). They're really nice cars, and fun to drive. If you can't find a GTI, try a GL (same years). It won't be as quick at first, but it would be a good project. Its easy to find high quality aftermarket parts for both, and they can end up being very fast cars. Just make sure the one you buy is a standard, not automatic (the autos shift way too soon in 2nd and 3rd) The Mustang/Camaro/Firebird scene is easy, since it gives you'll already have a powerful base engine (the v8). The imports will take some more money to make them faster. Maybe a 94 or more recent integra, a old prelude, or some of the other imports previously mentioned? It really depends on what you want.
