I am having a new bumper installed in a couple of weeks and want to protect it so the winter driving conditions ruin my investment. I have heard that car bras can retain moisture under their skin and damage a vehicle's paint job. This is the absolute last thing I want to happen to my car's nose. Does anyone use a car bra or have any experience with them? Can someone verify this paint-damage problems with car bras? I'd love to know.

I have used bras on previous vehicles without any ill affects. My only advice is to never let the car get rained on with the bra on, because if it does and then it drys you will have sand/dirt under the bra and there goes the paint. Just keep and ear on what the weather is going to be like and were the bra accordingly. You are probably better of with a really good wax and polish then the hassle of a bra in the winter (especially with the salt)

Ick..I hate car bras.
I've never had to deal with having a nice car in the winter (as much as I love Syrus, he doesn't need to keep a brilliant paint job) so I've never worried about it, but if wax works...use that...bras are so damn ugly!

Car bras look dumb. I had to try them myself on both Mustangs to come to that conclusion. I mean, I guess they look alright on some cars (although I can't think of which ones now) but they're definitely not for Mustangs. Both bras I bought were returned to Pep Boys. By the way, Pep Boys has the greatest return policy ever! It's like a 90 days no-questions-asked deal.

I'm more concerned about all the little rocks that'll hop up and take chunks out of my bumper in the winter. That is why I was considering the bra. I'd be getting this bra to cover this bumper I just really don't want my new bumper to get all messed up after it is only a month old.

Winter is the worst weather you can put your bra/car through. I would rethink the bra...

My best advise is not to install the bumper until winter is over. Bra's just plain suck on a car or a woman. It hides the goods and fucks up a good car. If you want to cover it for the winter, why bother doing it until spring?

Well, I've had good experience w/Car bras. In the winter I regulary wash my car depending on how bad it gets dirty & remove the bra to wash (wash the bra too). I have an upper & lower piece but mostly use the upper hood part.
The lower portion will give you the most pain in the ass chore of cleaning it since its fastened on good & it'll be cold out. The upper part is easy & I usually wipe it clean every other week. Check out my hood & bumper, they look good.
I did stop using the lower half come first sign of thaw, I used the hood part occasionally. Although I never had a chip on the hood until I had the bra removed for 3 weeks because I was just to lazy to clean it. So, I would go with the bra if you plan on keeping up with its cleaning. An OEM one will be a soft leather & a very breathable fabric (mine is OEM and has a nice "Cougar" written on it).
Although I would say hold off on the bumper till spring all together.

Just at tip if you do go w/the bra.
Try to put it on when it's warm out. If you can't, throw the bra in the dryer for a few minutes so the leather/fabric is easily streached. I did mine in late november & it was an udder pain in the ass getting that to go across the bumper. Plus it being bitterly cold my fingers weren't too happy.
But I would go with an OEM instead of a auto store model. You'll pay more (mine was around $90) but it's generally better quality.

personally, i think bra's don';t look good on cars, so i would agree with those that say wait until spring to put on the bumper. Besides, the bra gets in the way so you can't fully see the bumper, which sort of defeats the purpose of getting am aftermarket bumper. The car looks better w/o the bra anyway, so i'd say ditch the bra.

I think he would only be using the bra for the winter & not year round. So from a protection stand point it might be worth it.
If it's that important to you to get the bumper on now, go with a bra & clean it every week if we get a lot of snow. Otherwise it's always best to wait.

Putting the bumper has to hapen this month as it is part of an insurance claim and I am tired of driving around with a broken headlight lens, a messed-up bumper, a scratched wheel, and a fender that is knocked out of alignment. So the Saleen bumper goes on regardless of the season or weather conditions. I got the aftermarket bumper as a treat since it would only cost me an extra $100 over my deductible. I just don't want my "treat" to get ruined in three-weeks.

You honestly think the bumper is gonna get destroyed from the winter? Come on now, I thought you were smarter than that. Tell me, who has driven two Mustangs all winter for two years and didn't have any bumper problems? Car bras on Mustangs look stupid. Period.
